Marjorie Maxine Brooks, 82, of Liberty, died Monday, February 11, 2013, at Knolls of Oxford, Oxford, Ohio.
Marjorie was born June 29, 1930 at home in Kitchel, Union County, to Harold and Cora Shade Crouse and was a lifelong resident of Union County. In 1949, she graduated from Kitchel High School. Marjorie was a genuinely happy person who was always smiling and spreading joy. She adored children and young people and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Her competitive spirit was often portrayed playing cards and board games. Marjorie was a member of the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church in Liberty.
Marjorie is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Karla K. Barnhizer and Jim of Liberty; Sheri L. Leonard and Kent of St. Cloud, Florida; Karen S. Brooks of Indianapolis; her grandchildren: Jamison Barnhizer, Matthew Barnhizer, Joshua James Howard Brooks, Brooke Barnhizer, Christopher Barnhizer, Kristen Leonard; two great-grandchildren: Hayley Barnhizer and Liam Barnhizer; a brother: Robert Crouse of Ft. Myers, Florida; a sister: Betty Jean Jackson of Naples, Florida; her daughter-in-law: Kendra Brooks of Lakeland, Florida; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her son: James Brooks, who died November 2, 2012; two brothers: Harold and Eddie Crouse; two sisters: Mildred Kitchel and Jeanette Brown; and her former husband: Carl H Brooks, who died in 1994.
Marjorie’s funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Rev. Scott Bell of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Elkhorn Cemetery on Esteb Road in Wayne County. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church Nursery School.
