Marjorie Sue “Podge” Frasur, 83, a lifelong resident Liberty, died on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Sycamore Springs Rehabilitation Center in Liberty.
Podge was born in Union County on October 27, 1930, to Clyde and Fannie Pope Franklin. Due to the death of her mother, Podge at the age of 15 assumed the role of mother to her younger siblings, while her father supported the family during the depression years. In 1953 she married Joseph “Joe Eddie” Frasur. During her lifetime she was primarily a Mom and Grandma to her family. Podge also worked as a caregiver, a housecleaner, at Union County Speedway, and in dietary at Hillcrest Estates Nursing Home (now Sycamore Springs) where she resided since 2012.
Podge was an avid camper, she loved stock car racing and was known at all area race tracks. She was a Dale Jr. fan, she loved pets, and in her later years she loved playing bingo.
Podge is survived by one son and his spouse, Larry Frasur and Mary of Richmond; four daughters and their spouses: Carole Corn and Dale of Connersville, Joanna Dunaway and Tom of Connersville, Kathy Petro and Randy of Camden, Ohio, and Terry Frasur and Mark Stelle of Liberty; three brothers and their spouses: Jack Franklin and Rose, John Franklin and Linda, both of Liberty, and Lewis “Bud” Franklin and Bessie of Florida; a sister Doris Moore and companion Bill Bryant of Liberty; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, who died on February 6, 1981, Podge was preceded in death by three brothers: William “Bill”, Melvin “Meb”, and Clayton “Tator” Franklin; and three sisters: Lucy “Boots” Morrow, Lorena “Renie” Mitchell, and Polly Davis. She was also preceded in death by two close friends: Daisy Davis, who was Podge’s porch-sitting and coffee-drinking neighbor, and Marge White, a bingo partner.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 21, 2014, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home in Liberty, with Rev. John Boldrey of the Liberty Nazarene Church officiating, The grandsons will serve as pall bearers. Burial will follow in West Point Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 20. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sycamore Springs Activity Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Podge.
