Marsh A. Pouder, 92 of Richmond died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Friends Fellowship Community, Richmond.
A Liberty native, Marsh was born May 19, 1924, the son of Clark and Ruby Ardery Pouder. He attended area schools and was a 1942 graduate of Short High School. Marsh enlisted in the United States Air Force and honorably served his country during World War II as a pilot in the China Burma India Theater. He flew with the 80th Fighter Group and was stationed in India and China for a total of forty months. Marsh could fly a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt before he could drive a car. In October of 2014, Marsh was a recipient of an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in recognition of the many sacrifices he made. Marsh was married on June 26, 1948 to the former, Betty Albert. He also attended Purdue University for a year and graduated from University of Wisconsin with a certification in banking. In 1985, Marsh retired as Vice President from Union County National Bank after thirty seven years of service. He was a community oriented man and greatly enjoyed being involved in public organizations. Marsh was a member of the American Legion Post 122 for seventy years, the Board of Public Welfare for nineteen years, the Liberty Lodge #58, F. & A.M., Union County Council on Aging and was a life member of the Air Force Association. He also served as treasurer of the Treaty Line Pioneer Village and was a Union County Library trustee for several years. Marsh had actively attended Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. In his leisure time, he greatly enjoyed listening to music, especially big band and jazz.
Marsh is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Betty Albert Pouder; his children: John Pouder and his wife, Susie of Shelbyville; Sherri Pouder of Liberty; his granddaughters and their spouses: Molly Pouder Borgquist and Kevin of Morrow, Ohio; Mandy Pouder Rohal and Andy of Mariemont, Ohio; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Marsh is preceded in death by his parents and his sister: Patty Pouder Mitchum.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty with Pastor Scott Bell of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #122 and VFW Post #1472, both of Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to the Union County Library, Honor Flights or to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church. Memorial masonic services conducted by the Liberty Lodge #58, F. & A.M. will immediately follow visitation Tuesday evening.
