Martha “Estelle” Lawhorn Cornett, 92, formerly of Liberty, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at Hallmark Healthcare Center in Summerville, South Carolina.
Martha was one of thirteen children of her parents, William A. and Louisa Minton Carmon. She was born in Tazewell, Tennessee, on March 15, 1923. She worked as an inspector at Alcoa and retired in 1979. Estelle was a member of Meadowlane Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School Class for many years, played the organ, and sung at local nursing homes with her husband Kermit. Estelle also enjoyed cooking, gardening, and decorating.
Estelle is survived by five stepchildren: Beth Kaiser of Bethlehem, NH, James H. Lawhorn of Greenback, TN, Oliver Lawhorn of Summerville, SC, Ruby Roberts of Indianapolis, IN, and Patricia Click of Liberty, IN; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Estelle was preceded in death by husbands James H. Lawhorn and Kermit Cornett; and seven brothers and five sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23, 2015, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, in Liberty with Rev James Lawhorn officiating.
