Martha H. Zane, 86, of Connersville, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus, Indiana.
Martha was a native of Napoleon, Ripley County, born February 22, 1926, the youngest of eight children born to Christian Simon and Lydia May Idlewine Hermann. Following her move to Connersville, she was employed as a waitress at the McFarlan Hotel and later worked in the office at American Kitchens. For many years, Martha was the office manager at J.W. Funk Insurance and later, Central-Funk Insurance. She was an active member of Central Christian Church and enjoyed playing cards and traveling. Many of her summers were spent volunteering at the Fayette County Free Fair.
Martha is survived by several nieces and nephews and their spouses, including: Anna May Adams and Glenn of Columbus; Barbara K. Coulter of Beech Grove; Dr. William B. Whitten II and Sandra of Holmdel, NJ; Betty Lou Pittman of Columbus; Edward J. Hermann and Glenda, Mary Ann Hermann, David W. Hermann, John P. Hermann, all of Connersville; Tom Hermann and Janice of Glenwood; Jerry L. Hermann of Greensburg; two step-children: Betsy Carney and her husband, Gary of Sun City, CA; Philip Zane; several great and great-great nieces and nephews, step-grandchildren; and a close friend: Shelby Carpenter of Connersville.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her first husband: Maurice “Scotty” Scott; her second husband: Victor H. Zane; two sisters: Leora Pittman and Dorothy Whitten; five brothers: Rollin, Lester, Harold, Harry and Alvin Hermann.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2012, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Alan Terlep of the Central Christian Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made to the Central Christian Church.
