Former Connersville resident, Mary R. Baker, 89, died Saturday, January 16, 2021 at Greenwood Health Living Community Center. Mary was born to Harry Frank and Lydia Heil Sample on February 20, 1931 in Grant County, Indiana. She married Robert E. Sillett in Marion, Indiana in 1955 prior to moving to the Connersville area in 1956. Together they spent 45 years before his death in 2000. Mary was a homemaker for most of her life, providing a nurturing environment for her children. She married Walter Lee “Bud” Baker in 2007. Mary was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Connersville and was a past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, and watching her favorite television programs such as, The Little House on the Prairie. Most of all, Mary loved spending time with her family. Mary is survived by her daughters: Susan Hubbard, Monna Murphy and her husband Tom, Lou Anne Rambo; numerous grand and great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, who died March 1, 2012; children: Max, Gary, Anthony, Kathleen, Marsha; brothers: James and Leroy Sample; sisters: Ester Richardson, Virginia Patton, Margorie Carmichael. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, January 22, 2021, at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Friends may visit the funeral home from 12 p.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics, 1133 19th Street NW, 12th Floor Washington, DC 20036‐3604.
