Mary Ann Deck, 68, of Liberty, Indiana, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.
Mary Ann was born May 23, 1945, in Hamilton, Ohio, to Harlan and Edna Brier Moore. In 1963, she graduated from Short High School and also attended Miami-Jacobs Business College. Mary Ann was a lifelong resident of Union County, living all her life on her parent’s property. She worked at the License Branch and Union County Public Library, and was a member of the Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, all in Liberty.
Mary Ann received a heart transplant on April 30, 1986, at the University of Cincinnati Hospital and was a twenty-seven year and nine month transplant survivor. She was the first woman and the eleventh person to be a heart recipient at the hospital. Mary Ann was living proof that organ donation does save lives. Please consider being an organ donor. She was also a cancer survivor.
Mary Ann loved reading, cooking, and meeting new people. She made friends everywhere she went.
Mary Ann is survived by two sons: Bradley Deck and his wife Kerin, of Indianapolis and Bruce Deck and his wife, Bonnie, of Huntsville, AL.; and two granddaughters: Adrienne and Ashleigh Deck who are the daughters of Bradley and Keri. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, Sunday, February 9th, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 10, at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church, 4 West Seminary Street, Liberty. Burial will follow in College Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church.
