Mary Margaret McKenna, 92, of Cincinnati, Ohio and former Connersville resident, died Tuesday morning, October 22, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio.
A Connersville native, Mary Margaret was born July 14, 1921 to David and Lourena Michael McKenna. And was a 1939 graduate of Connersville High School. In 1942, she graduated from the Good Samaritan Hospital Nursing School in Cincinnati, Ohio and received her bachelors of science degree in nursing from Mount St. Joseph College, Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1944. Mary Margaret was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II attaining the rank of First Lieutenant. She had been employed for many years as a registered nurse in Dr. Lockhart’s office in Connersville and had worked for several doctors in the Cincinnati area. Mary Margaret retired from the Federal Employee Health Program in downtown Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Jude’s Church in Cincinnati and was a 50 year member of the American Legion, Post #1 in Connersville.
Mary Margaret is survived by her very dear and beloved friend: Patricia Ann Campbell of Cincinnati, Ohio; her niece: Patricia Ann Gray of Connersville; her great nephews and their wives: George Bergen and Marissa of Los Angeles, California; Joe Bergen and Sharon of New Castle.
In addition to her parents, Mary Margaret was preceded in death by two brothers: F.E. “Tots” McKenna and F.M. “Mike” McKenna.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum at 1 p.m. Saturday with Reverend Stanley Herber of St. Gabriel’s Church officiating and military honors by the Fayette County Veterans Counsel. Friends may visit at the mausoleum from 12 p.m. to the time of the service where memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
