Matthew L. Campbell, 57, of Connersville, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at his residence after an extended illness.
Matt was born in Anderson, March 16, 1954, to Frederick R. and Edna H. Morris Campbell. He was a 1972 graduate of Connersville High School. Matt was a cemetery preservationist and operated Pioneer Cemetery Restoration. His interests also included local history and extensive work on his family genealogy. Matt enjoyed children, sports and was an avid supporter and volunteer of the Fayette County Special Olympics. He liked to spend his leisure time playing cards and fantasy football.
Matt is survived by two daughters: Stacey Campbell, Kayla Staples and her husband, John, all of Connersville; his Mother: Edna H. Campbell, with whom he had made his home; four siblings and their spouses: Steven Campbell and Ellen of Shelbyville, Donna Keen and McKinley of Connersville, Kenneth Campbell and Roberta of Kettle, Kentucky, Kathy Caldwell and Robert of Connersville; two granddaughters: Ladessa Sparks and Kenda McFarland; several nieces and nephews.
Matthew is preceded in death by his Father, maternal grandparents: Kenneth and Ruby Morris; and his paternal grandparents: Wayne and Emma Campbell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Elders Glen Funk and Mike Chastain of the New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery Garden of Memories near Springersville. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Special Olympics.
