Matthew McFarland, 54, of Rushville, died Tuesday evening, August 8, 2017, at his residence.
Matthew was born in Connersville on June 9, 1963 to Dennis L. and Mona J. Harsh McFarland. He was a 1981 graduate of Connersville High School and a U.S. Army veteran stationed in Hawaii as a crew member with the Medivac helicopter. Matthew had been employed with KS Bearings in Greensburg and had also worked at Fowler Vending in Connersville. Matthew loved spending time with his family and was always joking. He was an avid Beatles fan and built military themed models in his leisure time.
Matthew is survived by his wife, the former Paula Inman whom he married July 9, 1994 in Rushville; his children and their spouses: Mica Mullis and Nathon of Sarasota, Florida, Jeremy Ball of Greensburg, Whitney Galloway and Jim, Wesley McFarland all of Rushville; Matthew Ferman, Christopher Ferman and Amanda, all of Monticello, Kentucky; his mother: Mona J. McFarland of Connersville; his siblings and their spouses: Michael R. McFarland and Melody; Melody D. Scott and Eric, all of Liberty; Diana L. Rowland, Denise J. Nobbe and Mark, all of Connersville; his grandchildren: Caitlyn Mullis, Nathon Mullis, Jr.; Johnathon Kuhn, Dillon Sizemore, Haley Galloway, Arie Galloway, Austin Meredith, Korrey Riddle; several nephews and nieces.
Matthew was preceded in death by his father and two brothers: Patrick D. and Dennis L. McFarland.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. James R. Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
