Maxine “Maxie” McFeely, 73, Connersville, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 7, 2014 at Fayette Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was surrounded by family and loved ones as she departed earth and began her journey toward what we pray is a well-deserved heavenly reward.
Born Marilou Maxine Anderson on December 15, 1940 in Cambridge City, she was the only daughter of Charles and Waneta Todd Anderson, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Cambridge City along with her older brother Ron and younger brother Johnny, both of whom survive. After graduating in 1959 from Lincoln High School, Cambridge City, she met and married Michael J. McFeely, who preceded her in death in 1992.
For much of her life, Maxie raised her family in Richmond. At times she was a stay-home mom raising her two sons and three daughters. At other times, she worked in sales before eventually working at Visteon and its predecessors in Connersville for 21 years, retiring in 2004.
A devout Roman Catholic, Maxie was a parishioner at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Connersville where she was a great supporter of the Pro-Life movement and donated generously to help end abortion. She was also a devoted viewer of EWTN and Mother Angelica, Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, including 16 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She was an avid reader and sports fan. She also enjoyed her pets and cooking and baking for her family.
She was the loving mother of six children: Michael McFeely Jr. of Connersville, Daniel McFeely and his wife, Sue of Carmel. baby Catherine who died shortly after birth, Margaret Swogger and her husband, Tony of Connersville; Abigail McFeely of Connersville and Samantha LaMar and her husband, Chad of Indianapolis. She was also a loving grandmother, known as “Mimi” to many grandchildren, including Kasey, Edward, Sierra, Kat, Ted, Mike, Jake, Matthew, Bella, Sarah, Danny, Maria, Gabe, Agnes, Charlie and Caleb; and to her great-grandchildren, including Seth, Samuel, Failicity Lewis and Bryleigh Curry; brothers and their wives: Ron and Glora Anderson of Greenfield, John and Marilyn Anderson of Richmond; nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, the Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Gabriel Church with Rev. Stanley J. Herber officiating. Friends may visit at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where the rosary service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Friends may also visit at the church from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Pro-Life Committee at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Connersville.
