Mona June Mcfarland

Fayette County native, Mona J. McFarland, 85, died Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at Fayette Regional Health Hospital. Mona was the daughter of Gail and Murriel Ailes Harsh, born June 17, 1932. In 1950, she graduated from Connersville High School. She was married at Central Christian Church on October 22, 1950 to Dennis L. McFarland who died April 14, 2001. Mona was a devoted wife, mother and member of Central Christian Church. Mona’s care and concern for others was best exemplified in her unconditional charity to strangers. She had been employed at Fayette Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide and enjoyed babysitting. Mona cherished her time with family and friends. She liked spending her leisure time tending to her flowers and attending auctions. Mona is survived by her children and their spouses: Diana L. Rowland, Denise J. Nobbe and Mark, all of Connersville; Michael R. McFarland and Melody, Melody D. Scott and Eric, all of Liberty; other daughters-in-law: Carol McFarland of Cicero, Paula McFarland of Rushville; 25 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings: Neal Harsh and his wife, Judy of Plano, Texas; a foster brother: Orville Bloom and his wife, Wanda of Connersville; her companion: Ed Clark of Connersville; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mona is preceded in death by her sons: Dennis Jr, Matthew and Patrick McFarland; and her brothers: Martin Lee Harsh and Dalbert Harsh. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. James R. Orr officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday where memorial contributions may be made to Hope Pregnancy Center or to the American Heart Association.
