Lifetime resident, Nancy D. Lengle, 88, died on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Reid Health in Richmond.
Nancy was born on June 27, 1934 to Dorothy Gaddis in Franklin County, Indiana.
She attended Connersville School’s. Nancy was employed at J.J. Newberry department store as a window dresser, she was always proud of the window displays she put together; Nancy worked there in the late 50s and early 60s. She worked with two of her brothers until they got other jobs. Nancy was known for her Chili Sandwiches that she made there; people in town would stop just to get the sandwiches. She was also famously known for making Peanut butter scotch pies, which was an old family recipe. Nancy worked at Mary McQueen's beauty salon when she first got her cosmetology License until she opened up her own salon Nancy’s Beauty Salon. Nancy married Edgar L. “Cork” Lengle on October 4, 1952; together they shared sixty-four years prior to his death in 2016. Nancy has been heavily involved in Fayette County since 1982. She has held several positions including: county clerk for one term, township trustee for four terms, as well as helping in the recorder’s office, clerk’s office and anywhere else she was needed. She was a devoted member of the Women’s Democrat Club, Democrat Central Committee, American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, AmVets Auxiliary, AARP secretary, optimist club and ran the bingo hall at the legion for more than thirty-years. Nancy was an avid reader of murder mysteries; she could start a book and finish it the same day. She enjoyed gambling and taking trips to the casino. Her favorite pastime however, was spending time playing games with her family, especially her grand and great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nancy is survived by her children and their spouses: Leroy and Gayle Lengle, Jeannine Eldridge; brother: Fred Allen and his wife: Katha; grandchildren: Edgar and Tatiana Lengle II, Ashley Parrish and her husband: Robert, Jason and Sarah Lynn, Dustin and Heather Harsh; great-grandchildren: Brettley Brown, Alivea Lynn, Karmen Parrish, Brianna Harsh, Amelia Parrish, Maycee Lynn, Logan Lynn, Allison Harsh; several nieces and nephews; many friends.
In addition to her mother and husband, Nancy is preceded in death by her grandparents: Merle and Edna Gaddis; brothers: Eldon Gladdis, Bernard Gaddis, Herschel Gaddis, Clifford Gaddis, Brice Gaddis; sisters: Freida Evans, Lucy McIntyre, Pansy Sheffy, Deloris Gaddis; brothers: Herschel Allen, John Allen, Charles Allen; sisters: Ruth Nickel, Nancy King.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00p.m., September 2, 2022 at Showalter Blackwell Long, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Fayette County Cancer Society in Nancy’s honor.
