Nancy Sue Rambo, 83, of Connersville, died Wednesday evening, November 8, 2017, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis, following a brief illness.
Nancy was born at home in Connersville on September 24, 1934, to Raymond Edward and Jeanette Hay Horner. She attended Connersville area schools. On February 9, 1951, she was married in Connersville to James E. Rambo, who died June 18, 1991. Nancy was a member and former officer of the Fayette County Democrats and had been a Delegate to the Indiana State Convention. She was active with the Fayette Senior Center and was the president of the Widowed Persons Services. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society and Fayette County AARP. Nancy had been employed as a hostess at the 40 et 8, Connie’s in Richmond and the Maplewood Inn. Nancy loved salmon fishing with her husband and family horseback trail rides. She enjoyed traveling and trips to the casino.
Nancy is survived by her sons and their wives: Gerald L. Rambo and Judy of Connersville, Kim W. Rambo and Tina of Liberty, Kit J. Rambo, Jerry D. Rambo, Jeffrey W. Rambo and Brenda, James R. Rambo and Tammy, all of Connersville; fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, her sisters and their husbands: Carolyn Bartlett and Norman of Oxnard, California; Madeline Ferguson and James of St. Petersburg, Florida; Patricia Kelsch and Clyde of Connersville; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Nancy was preceded in death by her granddaughter: Amy Sue Rambo, who died April 26, 1998; brothers: Frederick and Edward Horner; sisters: Clairetta Croucher, Barbara Manley, Wilhelmina Skaggs, Judith Jones, Juanita Rea, Teresa Sherwood.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Rev. Robert E. Lee officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery, section L. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday where memorial contributions may be made to help defray funeral costs.
