Nellie Eva Burge

Nellie “Eva” Burge, 85, formerly of Connersville, died Thursday, November 24, 2011, at her residence. Eva was born February 12, 1926 in Beattyville, Kentucky to Clyde and Mary Morris Gabbard. On April 13, 1946, she was married to Leonard Burge who died April 14, 1996. They had lived in Orange Township and in the Dublin community. “Eva” had been employed as a laboratory technician at McQuay-Norris and had also worked at J.C. Penney. She was a member of New Heights Church of Christ. “Eva” was dedicated to her family and enjoyed crocheting in her leisure time. “Eva” is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Jimmy D. and Karen Burge of Jeffersonville; her grandchildren: Kimberly Diop and Kelly McClure, both of Clarksville, Sean Burge and his wife, Jamie of Louisville, Kentucky; three great-grandchildren: Elaj Diop, Tyler Baldwin and Cameron McClure; a sister: Edra Simpson and her husband, James of Hillsboro, Ohio. In addition to her parents and husband, “Eva” was preceded in death by an infant son, Johnny and a brother, James Gabbard. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon Monday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, with Robert D. “Pete” Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery.
