Norma J. Delaney

Norma J. Delaney, 85, formerly of Connersville, died Monday morning, April 9, 2018, at Flat Rock River Lodge in Rushville. Norma was born in Rushville, May 5, 1932, to Garrett Powell and Nellie Mae Ball Jones. She was a 1950 graduate of Connersville High School and was married on September 16, 1951 to James A. Delaney. Together they were foster parents to over 100 children. Norma was a member of Park Place Church of God where she had taught Sunday School, played piano and was a member of the choir. For several years, she did ironing for hire and later was employed at McDonalds in Connersville. Her compassion for others and boundless energy defined her life. Norma loved her daily walks and was an avid bowler. She had also been active with T.O.P.S. and as a volunteer at Fayette Memorial Hospital. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her husband who died November 24, 1989; her brother: Robert Jones and her great-granddaughter: Dreama Stanton; and a daughter-in-law: Donna Delaney. Norma is survived by her children and their spouses: James Albert Delaney III of Hickman, Kentucky; Michael Powell Delaney and Enola of Connersville, Vicki J. Williams and Keith, Cathy J. Wilson and Rob, all of New Palestine, Kelly L. Whittaker of Rushville; 22 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Zach Korff, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery section J. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Bureau Inc.
