Norma F. Poe, 94, formerly of Richmond, died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Liberty Nursing Center in Oxford, Ohio.
Norma was born October 9, 1918 in Connersville to Fred and Hettie Robinson Showalter and attended Connersville area schools. On November 16, 1940, she married in Muncie to Edgar W. Poe. Norma was a member of the Centerville Baptist Church and a 44 year member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church in Liberty. She had been employed at Stant Manufacturing in Connersville, Capitol Varsity Cleaners for 20 years and had worked cleaning houses. She enjoyed many activities as a member of the Senior Center in Richmond including bowling, playing pool and horseshoes. Norma enjoyed creating art work, generally painting with acrylics.
Norma is survived by her three children and their spouses: Janet Johnson and Charles, Lillian Gibbs and Allan all of Somerville, OH, Stephen Poe and Linda of Liberty, IN; eight grandchildren: Cheryl Johnson, Paula Pflum, Michelle Barker, Laura Ailes, Jennifer Crossley, Rachel Austerman, Stephen Matthew Poe and Mark Edward Poe; three step-granddaughters; fourteen great-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years who died in 1975; four brothers: Jesse, Russell, John and Ted Showalter; two sisters: Bessie Ringer and Helen McDonough.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Wednesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
