Connersville resident, Pearl Hamilton, 91, died Monday, March 24, 2014, at her residence.
Pearl was a native of London, Kentucky, born May 27, 1922 to William and Dicie MaGill McKee and attended school there. She earned $15 a week at her first job at a flag factory in Cincinnati, Ohio and later was employed for ten years at McQuay-Norris in Connersville. For over 29 years, Pearl was the crossing guard trafficette at the intersection in front of Maplewood School. On June 28, 1946, Pearl was married in Connersville to Joseph L. “Joe” Hamilton who died July 14, 1990. She was a member of the Western Avenue Baptist Church for over 50 years and enjoyed eating out with friends each Sunday. Pearl was an avid walker.
Pearl is survived by her son: Larry Hamilton of Connersville; four grandchildren: Jessica Hamilton of Brookville, Josh, Lauren and Ethan Hamilton, all of Connersville; three great-grandchildren: Brian Doherty, Sophia and Isabella Hamilton; her sister: Myrtle Stewart of Chattanooga, Tennessee; a niece: Diane Baughman and her husband, Jerry of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
In addition to her parents, Pearl is preceded in death by her husband of over 43 years; a brother: Burton McKee; nephew: Randy Stewart; and two infant sisters.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Troy Bishop of the Western Avenue Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made to the Western Avenue Baptist Church.
