Pearl Smith Kinney

Pearl Smith Kinney, 92, currently a resident of Attica, died Friday evening, June 6, 2014, at Indiana University Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. A native of Sharonville, Ohio, Pearl was born July 22, 1921 to Samuel J. and Alice Gabbard Smith and attended school in Hamilton, Ohio. On April 25, 1939, she married Benjamin “Malcolm” Kinney who died in 1970. They had resided in Hamilton, Ohio, Glenwood and Connersville. Pearl was a great cook and loved to bake, especially pies. She had been employed as the cook at a children’s home in Hamilton, Ohio, Glenwood School and the Durbin Hotel in Rushville. She enjoyed shopping and had been an active member of the Fayette County Senior Center where she often played cards. Pearl attended the Attica Free Methodist Church. Pearl is survived by three children and their spouses: Wanda L. McRoberts and Jerry of Wilkinson, David M. Kinney and Pat of Georgia, Glenn A. Kinney and Fontainee of Connersville; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchildren with another expected soon, nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Pearl was preceded in death by her second husband, Howard Crain; her great-granddaughter: Ashley McRoberts; two brothers: Frank and Ted Smith and two sisters: Dorothy Isaacs and Pauline Fannin. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Jerry Badgley of the Attica Free Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service.
