Phyllis J. Poindexter, of Indianapolis, died peacefully in her sleep on her 85 birthday, at St. Francis Hospital, Beech Grove, following a short illness.
Phyllis was a native of Fayette County, born January 16, 1929 to Goebel and Julia Sturgis Johnson. She was raised in Connersville and was a graduate of Harrisburg High School. She was married in 1951 in Washington, D.C. to the love of her life, David R. Poindexter who died in December 2009. They resided in Florida for 15 years following retirement. Prior to her retirement in 1995 from RCA and GE after 26 years of employment, she lived many years in Indianapolis and returned there following her husband’s death. She was a wonderful wife and loving mother and grandmother.
Phyllis is survived by her children: David R. Poindexter II of Port Richey, FL; April Strong and her husband, Dennis of Indianapolis; Daniel R. Poindexter and his partner, Lou Ann Liers of Lincolnton, GA; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sister: Carol “ Becky” Rose and her son Kevin who both resides in Connersville; niece: Cheryl Doucette and her husband, Robert of Connersville; nephew: Patrick Goebel and his wife, Lori of Ellijay, Georgia.
In addition to her parents and husband of 58 years, Phyllis is preceded in death by her sister: Rose Linville.
Phyllis’ funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Robert Doucette of Connersville officiating. Interment will follow in Valley Grove Cemetery, Wayne County. Friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday from 12 pm until the time of the service.
