Richard D. “Doug” Phillips, 70 of Liberty, died quietly at his home on Wednesday afternoon, February 5, 2013.
Doug was born December 9, 1943 in Lynn to Frederick and Lena Phillips and was a 1961 graduate of Lynn High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Viet Nam war. For 42 years, Doug was employed as an electrician with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and was most proud of the work he did on nuclear power plants all over the country. After retiring, Doug enjoyed living on his farm and observing nature. In his leisure time he liked to hunt, fish and camp.
Doug is survived by his wife: Rena Cameruca Phillips; his son and daughter-in-law: Marty Phillips and Bitty of Munster; a grandson: Harjot Phillips; mother-in-law and father-in-law: Reno and Judy Cameruca of Columbus, Ohio; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Reno and Kathleen Camerucci; Kendy and Sam Triano; Tonya and Mike Plake; Michelle and Chuck Wilson, all of Columbus, Ohio; Kevin Cameruca of Indianapolis; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his brother: Fredrick Phillips.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, at Showalter-Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Pastor Tim Billups of the Connersville Baptist Temple officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery. Friends are requested to wear jeans and flannel shirts and may visit at the funeral home from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday.
