Robert E. “Bob” Brack, 85, of Connersville, died Monday morning, May 16, 2011, at his residence.
Bob was born October 25, 1925 in Bath Township, Franklin County to Oscar W. and Edna M. Sayers Brack. In 1943, he graduated from Brookville High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1944. While serving as a Staff Sergeant during WW II with the 5th Armored Tank Division, he participated in the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Campaigns. His military decorations included Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his second tour of duty, he was discharged in 1948. Bob was active in the Army National Guard, retiring in 1957 as a Master Sergeant. In 1989, he retired as the Production Control Manager at Dresser Roots after 32 ½ years of employment. Bob was a lifetime member of the B.P.O. Elks #379 where served as Exalted Ruler for two terms and he was a member of the AMVETS. He was an avid golfer and bowler and had been involved in Little League Baseball. Bob also enjoyed playing softball and was a pitcher for the Modern Oil Company team for several years
Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, the former Betty E. O’Neal, whom he married May 2, 1948 in Brookville; three children and their spouses: Paul E. Brack and Teresa of Connersville, Ed Brack and Jeanna of Lawrenceburg, Beth A. Pilgrim and Butch of Connersville; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Gabe Brack and his fiancé, Darlene Uskert of Fishers, Stephanie Gansert and Jim of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Jessica Wells and Joe of Connersville, Lyndsey Brack of Lawrenceburg, Dustin Brack of Neptune Beach, FL, Brock Pilgrim and Becky, Erica Gaines and Aaron, all of Connersville; six great-grandchildren: Dalton, Tyson and Dylan Brack, Harly Pilgrim, Broady Gaines, Lola Wells; a sister: Hazel Geiling of Brookville; two brothers and their wives: Kenneth Brack and Gloria of Dade City, FL, Hubert Brack and Jane of Brookville.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by three brothers: Roy, Dale and Neil Brack and three sisters: Eleanor Ailes, Helen Glaub, Evelyn Linkle.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Gene Spicer and Eric Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military honors provided by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where the B.P.O. Elks will conduct memorial services at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to the American Heart Association, National Lupus Foundation or to Cerebral Palsy “Walking For Dreams”.
