Robert R. Evans, of Connersville, died at his home, Thursday, April 23, 2015, the day after his 78th birthday.
Robert was born in Bicknell, to Floyd Henry and Alice Mae Vale Evans. He attended Glenwood Elementary School and Orange High School. He was a member of St. Gabriel Church. Robert had been employed in maintenance at J.C. Penney in Connersville for over 20 years. He had also worked at Design and Manufacturing, National Metal Products and Connersville Casket Company. Robert enjoyed hunting and fishing and teaching his grandchildren. He was a collector of all things, especially clocks and pocket watches that he also repaired.
Robert is survived by his wife of almost sixty years, the former Norma J. Copple whom he married May 14, 1955 at St. Gabrile Church; his children and their spouses: Joan McDivitt and Tim of Connersville; Cindy Barrett and Kenneth of Indianapolis; David Evans of Glenwood; Cathy Whitecotton, Pam Northern and Jerry, Danny Evans and Jayi, Michael Evans and Janice, all of Connersville; his sister: Clara Joan Noble of Connersville; son-in-law: Jeff Jones of Connersville; his grandchildren: Janny Steele, Jeffrey Jones, Julie Jones, Benjamin Rowland, Jayma Bauer, Robert Barrett, Brandon Whitecotton, Veronica Hamilton, Christopher Northern, Greg Northern, Danielle, Luke, Shawn, Eric and Connor Evans; twelve great-grandchildren; his aunt: Betty Hogan of Connersville; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his daughter: Rita Jones; his step-mother: Kate Wilson Evans; grandchildren: Kenneth Robert Evans and David Allen Barrett; brother: Bill Evans; infant brother: Jimmy Evans.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Rev. Stanley Herber officiating. Interment will follow in Glenwood Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society.
