Robert N. “Bob” Koohns, 81, of Glenwood and formerly of the Connersville community, died Saturday evening, April 27, 2013, at Rush Memorial Hospital, Rushville.
A native of Connersville, Bob was born May 17, 1931 to Robert L. and Margaret I. Allard Koohns. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran and attained the rank of Airman first Class. On December 24, 1952, he was married at Central Christian Church to the former Shirley Joan Mustin, who died December 15, 2000. Bob retired from McQuay-Norris as a tool and die maker following 28 years of employment. He had served as the trustee for Orange Township, as a member of the Fayette County School Board and was a private contractor detasseling corn for Pioneer Seed. He had also taught tool and die at the Whitewater Technical Career Center. Bob was a member of the Garrison Creek Baptist Church and the Bluegrass Association. He was an outdoorsman, enjoying hunting mushrooms, gardening and witching (dowsing) graves.
Bob is survived by three children and their spouses: Phillip and Sue Koohns; Penny and Lee Nutty; Peggy and Brian Coon, all of the Connersville area; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; a brother: John Koohns and his wife, Marie of Rushville; two sisters and their husbands: Anna Hunt and Owen of Arizona; Barb Strom and Dave of Ohio; sister-in-law: Phyllis Newman of Rushville; daughter-in-law: Brenda Conover of Rushville; brother-in-law: Norman Mustin and his wife, Addie of Connersville; several niece and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bob is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years; two sons: Reynol L. Koohns, who died June 30, 2002; Daniel R. Koohns, who died May 17th, 2005; and a brother: Fred Koohn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Tim Fluty of the Garrison Creek Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Orange Cemetery, south of Glenwood. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Connersville Babe Ruth League or to the Bluegrass Association.
