Robert E. Stevens, 91, of Liberty died Friday, December 26, 2014, at Rosebud Village in Richmond.
Robert was born in Union County on Saturday, June 23, 1923, to Forrest and Minnie Viola Larimore Stevens. He graduated from Alquina High School with the class of 1942. Robert married Marjorie Hoppes on Saturday, July 5, 1947. Robert worked at Rex Manual, Philco Ford, owned and operated Liberty Oil Co. from 1949 – 1979, and was maintenance supervisor at Heritage House in Richmond from 1983 – 1998. Following retirement Robert delivered Meals on Wheels till he was 85 years old. He attended Brownsville United Methodist Church.
Robert is survived by a son: James R. Stevens and wife Tressie of Liberty; two brothers: Hubert Stevens of Liberty, and Richard Stevens and wife Marilyn of Richmond; two sisters: Mary Alice York of Franklin, OH, and Juanita Osborne of Liberty; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of sixty-four years who died on June 11, 2011, Robert was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Gary Stevens; a grandson, Seth Stevens; two brothers: LeRoy and Donald Stevens; and two sisters: Ruby Pflum and Joan Gaddy.
Public graveside services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at West Point Cemetery in Liberty with Rev. Dana Hadden of Hanna’s Creek Church officiating.
