Connersville resident, Ruth I. McFall, 96, died Monday evening, June 30, 2014, at Caroleton Manor Nursing Center.
Ruth was born in Portland, October 25, 1917, to Charles and Mildred Conwell Bickel and came to Connersville as a child. In 1935, she graduated from Connersville High School and received her teaching degree in 1939 from Ball State Teachers College. Ruth was employed with the Fayette County Welfare Department for two years and then worked as a caseworker at the Fayette County Employment Office, retiring in 1983 as the manager. She was a member of the East Side United Methodist Church, Altrusa and Business Professional Women where she had served as president. Ruth loved to travel and often said her middle name was “Go.” She was very generous and treasured the time she spent with children.
Ruth is survived by her nieces: Pat Burgess, Carol Isaacs, both of Connersville; Norma Demaree of Gray, Georgia; Marion Rockwell of Trenton, Ohio; Sherry Emery of South Bend; her nephew: Ed Spangler of North Carolina and their families; her Caroleton Manor family.
In addition to her parents, Ruth is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Wendell W. McFall, who died in July 2000; her sister: Margaret Spangler; her brother: James Bickel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor Malcolm B. Greene of the East Side United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to Altrusa or to the Business Professional Women.
