Selma E. Hofer, 96, formerly of College Corner, Ohio, died Monday morning, July 2, 2012, at Sycamore Springs Nursing Home, Liberty.
Selma was a native of Brookville, born February 22, 1916, the youngest of nine children of George and Gertrude Bender Hertel. She was an active member of the College Corner United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Selma had been employed at the former Kroger Store in College Corner which she and her husband purchased in 1960 and operated as Hofer’s Market for several years.
Selma is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Marvin E. and Phyllis Hofer of West College Corner; two granddaughters: Julie Abbott and her husband, Brad of West College Corner; Susan Keasling of Ashtabula, Ohio; three great-grandchildren: Ryan and Megan Abbott, Kristin Keasling; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Selma was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde, who died in 1985 and eight siblings, including her twin sister, Thelma.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, College Corner, Ohio, with Rev. Mick Miller of the College Corner United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in College Corner Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Thursday until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the College Corner United Methodist Church.
