Sharon Kay Mitchell, 69, of Connersville, died early Monday morning, February 6, 2012, at her residence surrounded by her loved ones..
Sharon was born November 5, 1942 in Connersville to William Hershel and Margaret Louise Rayburn Ross. She was a 1960 graduate of Connersville High School. Sharon enjoyed working at Visteon and its predecessors, and was active with the United Way Fund Drive there. Sharon was always eager to help others. Her collection of bells and thimbles were from all over the country, as well as the world. Sharon’s greatest joys were her granddaughters and great-granddaughter.
Sharon is survived by two daughters: Jeri Mitchell of Connersville; Libby Simmons and her husband, Mark of Indiana; four granddaughters: Misty Simmons of Connersville, Miranda Linville and her husband, Brad of Muncie; Elisha Winstead and her fiancé, David Ash, Jr. of Connersville; Kelsey Simmons of Indiana; her great-granddaughter: Alexus Kay Ash of Connersville; her sister: Marge Godwin and her husband, John of Alabama; a brother: Larry Lee Ross of Western Grove, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sharon was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Jerald K. “Smokey” Mitchell who died April 3, 2002.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Bill Flanigan, Jr. of The First Southern Baptist Church of Falmouth, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday where memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
