Sherilyn Kay Lakes

Connersville native Sherilyn K. Lakes, 74, died Monday, February 14, 2022 at Reid Health in Richmond. An only child, Sheri was born to Charles W. and Vivian Cook Smith on May 13, 1947. She attended Connersville High School and graduated in 1965. She furthered her education at Ball State University. Sheri married Gary Wayne Lakes at Central Christian Church in Connersville on July 1, 1967; together they spent fifty-three years prior to his death in 2020. She was employed with First Choice CRF, formerly Mauger’s, as a care giver; a position she held dear to her heart. Sheri was heavily involved with the boys and girls club, keeping the records for the various sports leagues. Sheri enjoyed taking trips to the casino, playing bingo, and going bowling. She was an avid shopper and adored tending to her feline companions. Sheri never knew a stranger, she whole heartedly helped anyone she could. Above all, she cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She will be deeply missed. Sheri is survived by her sons: Jeffrey Lakes and his significant other Jessica of Connersville, Christopher Lakes of Shelbyville; grandchildren: Claire Ann Lakes, Kelli Ray Lakes, Zachary Christopher Lakes, Brent Lakes; brother in-law: Dennie “Briar” Lakes and his wife Patti of Connersville; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Sheri is preceded in death by her parents. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 22, 2022 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Kim McHale of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Friends may visit the funeral home from 11:00 a.m., until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to NAMI – National Alliance on Mental Health in Sheri’s honor.
