Shirley Ann Morris, 79, of rural Fayette County, died Monday afternoon, March 2, 2015, at her residence.
A Fayette County native, Shirley was born September 1, 1935 to Edward and Pearl Pollitt Welch and was a 1953 graduate of Harrisburg High School. On September 13, 1953, Shirley was married to Lloyd Morris at Central Christian Church. For twenty years, she owned and operated the Special Occasions wedding service. Shirley was a Fayette County 4-H club leader of the Jennings Top Notchers for thirty years. She also coached the Fayette County 4-H Buckaroos Horse & Pony Club color guard. Shirley was a member of the New Bethel Primitive Baptist Church.
Shirley is survived by her daughters: Debbi E. Lathrop and her husband, Richard of Eaton, Ohio; Jane A. Pigman; Beckie Banks, both of rural Fayette County; Anjee Scrogham of Connersville ;her sisters: Lucy Stofer of Indianapolis; Ruth Davidson of Shelbyville; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren, plus two on the way; several half-brothers, half-sisters and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, who died March 10, 2012; her daughter: Patsie Morris; her siblings: Myron James, Jr., Dorothy Clere and Buddy Jones.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel with Elder Mike Chastain of Village Creek Primitive Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery Garden of Memories, Fayette County. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County 4-H Support Group.
