Stanley G. Fields, 78, of Union County, died on Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Fayette Regional Health System.
Stanley was born in Fayette County to Arthur and Mary Smith Fields on June 23, 1937. He graduated from Alquina High School in 1955 and Ball State in 1959. Stanley married Evelyn Sue Mathas on August 24, 1958 at the Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church. He was a U.S Air Force veteran and taught at Short High School from 1962 until 1966. He worked for Union County Co-Op and was always involved in farming along with his other occupations. He enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and playing with his grandchildren. Stanley was an active member of Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife of 57 years, Stanley is survived by one son: Jeff Fields and wife Beth of Liberty; four daughters: Teresa Fisk and husband Harold of Greenfield, Lisa Eadler of New Madison, Debbie Fields of Milroy, and Sarah Schwendenman and husband Tom of Rushville; two brothers: Clyde Fields of Indianapolis and George Fields and wife Helen of Liberty; one sister: Marilyn Sue Parks and husband Ken of Indianapolis; fourteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Fields; a sister, Betty Jane Allen; and a son-in-law, Steve Eadler.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2016, at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Bell officiating. Interment will follow in Dunlapsville Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. where memorial contributions may be made to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church.
