Theodore L. “Ted” Stoehr, 81, of Connersville, died Saturday, October 6, 2012, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.
A Fayette County native, Ted was born in Everton October 2, 1931 to John and Hazel Stoehr and was a 1949 graduate of Connersville High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1949 where he served as a Corporal with the 54th Engineers Battalion in Germany. Ted was employed at the Connersville Post Office for over 34 years working the service window and as a rural carrier the last seventeen years. Ted was an exceptional woodworker and was well known for his beautiful work. His many creations included intricate inlaid designs as well as fine furniture and cabinets. He and his wife also created beautiful stain glass lamps together. Ted attended the Gratis United Methodist Church in Gratis, Ohio and he was a member of the American Legion in Connersville.
Ted is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, the former Pauline V. “Polly” Glisson, whom he married October 9, 1953 in Connersville; three children and their spouses: Jerry L. Sherwood and Kathy of Mooreland; Stephen A. Stoehr of Glenwood; Brenda L. Steele and David of Middletown, Ohio; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister: Violet Walmsley of Indianapolis; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Ted was preceded in death by nine siblings.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Pastor Gary Wood of Gratis United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Everton Cemetery with military honors by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
