Vera M. Bailey, 89 of Connersville, died Friday, September 27, 2013, at Reid Hospital, Richmond.
Vera was a Fayette County native, born October 6, 1923 to Christopher and Nellie Hamilton Rowe. She attended Connersville High School and on June 24, 1946, she was married at Central Christian Church to Edwin Bailey. Vera had been employed at Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Shelbyville and REX Manufacturing. She also worked as a meter reader at Connersville Utilities and retired from Philco. Vera liked to read and garden. She most enjoyed being with her family.
Vera is survived by her children: Harold Bailey and his wife, Katherine of Corryton, Tennessee; Julia Bailey and Jerry Pflug, Mae Smith and her husband, David; Connie Sue Smith and her husband, Norman; Marlene Bailey and Ron Coates, all of Connersville; a daughter-in-law: Connie Bailey of Bloomington; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, a great-great-granddaughter; her sister: Virginia Baldwin and her husband, Foster of Connersville; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Edwin who died September 23, 2001; her son: Gary Bailey; three brothers: Delbert, Joseph and Phillip Rowe; and four sisters: Nettie Bush, Sara Shepard, Elizabeth DeMoss and Billie Stang.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville. Interment will follow in Lick Creek Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Diabetes Association.
