Vera O. Russell, 86, of Blooming Grove Township in Franklin County, died Friday, October 26, 2012, at McCullough-Hyde Hospital, Oxford, Ohio, after being transported from Brookville Healthcare.
Vera was born January 31, 1926 in Harrison Township of Fayette County to Forrest I. and Bessie I. Breitenbach Moffett and graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1944. She had been employed at REX Manufacturing and McQuay-Norris, both in Connersville, following graduation. On July 31, 1948, she was married in Connersville to Raymond M. Russell who died October 9, 1994. They had farmed in the Blooming Grove area since 1951 and were members of the former Blooming Grove United Methodist Church. Vera enjoyed being a farmer’s wife and her membership in the DeHaven Genealogy Club. She was a published poet and had made many quilts throughout her life. Vera had also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother.
Vera is survived by her sons and their wives: Steven R. Russell and Tracy, Jeffrey F. Russell and Michele, Chris A. Russell and Patty, all of the Brookville community; six grandchildren and their spouses: David Russell and Carrie of Indianapolis; Brandy Colebrook and Christophe of Syracuse, New York; Stacy Grimmeissen and Joshua of West Harrison; Jason Russell of Blooming Grove, Sondra Russell, Jared Russell, both of Brookville; four great-grandchildren: Jacy and Jaelyn Grimmeissen, Amelia Rose Russell and Forrest Russell Colebrook; her brother: Howard L. Moffett and his wife, Evelyn of Fayette County; a sister-in-law: Viola Moffett of Fayette County; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband of 46 years, Vera was preceded in death by four brothers: Glen A., Charles E., Earl F. and Raymond O. Moffett.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon, Wednesday, with Rev. Richard Waddle of the Sandusky United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 a.m. Wednesday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department.
