Viola M. Hahn Wheeler

Viola M. (Hahn) Wheeler, 82 of Connersville died Thursday, January 23, 2025, at Reid Health in Richmond.

The daughter of Ellsworth Pershing Hahn and Dorothy Booher Sturgis, Viola was born on November 22, 1942. She graduated from Connersville High School in 1962 prior to moving to California. After twenty-five years, Viola returned home to be close to her family. You could often find her volunteering her time at the former Fayette Memorial Hospital. In addition, she spent countless hours volunteering, worshiping, singing in the choir, performing in musicals, working in the former bookstore and day care at Calvary Baptist Church. Calvary was Viola’s home away from home. She also enjoyed listening to Elvis, traveling with church members, collecting beautiful dolls, and rooting for her Dallas Cowboys. Viola adored spending time with her family and friends. She will be deeply missed. 

Viola is survived by her son and his wife: Shahn Basford and Dana of Michigan; grandchildren: Amanda, Marie, Grace; sisters: Virginia L. Robinson of Connersville, Connie S. Haselby and Jon of Richmond; many nieces, nephews, and friends from church. 

In addition to her parents, Viola is preceded in death by her stepfather: Paul L. Sturgis; brothers: Ronald Hahn, Jackie Hahn; sister and her husband: Diana Waddell and Brad; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor John Reynolds officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11:00 a.m., until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Viola’s honor.
