Virgil Irvin Steele, 74, of Connersville died Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Hickory Creek of Connersville.
A McKee, Kentucky native, Virgil was born February 17, 1942 to Luther and Pearl Hughes Steele and attended Sparks School in Jackson County, Kentucky. On February 12, 1966, Virgil married the former, Georgia Case at her mother’s home. Virgil owned and operated Steele Brothers Roofing and he had also been employed for ten years at Design and Manufacturing and National Metal Company for five years. Virgil was a member of the Full Gospel Holiness Church. He was a dog lover, especially of small dogs like his Chihuahua, Roxie. In his leisure time, Virgil loved to garden and continued until his health declined. He will be remembered for the good man he was and for his love of relaxing in the recliner with his bowl of ice cream.
Virgil is survived by his wife of fifty years, Georgia; his children and their spouses: Virgil Lee Steele and Greta; Brian Steele and Renee; Gary Steele; Marian Cain and Tim, all of Connersville; his step-son and his wife: Dwayne Blevins and Vicki of Laurel; his grandchildren: Michael, Autumn, William, and Sabrina Blevins; Tyler and Dylan Steele; Tanner Steele and Trae Corbin, and Isaiah Cain; his brothers and their spouses: James Steele and Bonnie; Clifton Steele; Finley Steele and Patricia, all of Connersville; eight great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Virgil is preceded in death by his brother: Leslie Steele; his sister: Veran Dunn; his sister-in-law: Dena Steele; his niece: Faye Hammonds.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Reverend Robert E. Lee and Pastor Jeff Hensley officiating. Interment will follow in Laurel North Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 until the time of service Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
