Walter Junior “Shorty” Clark, 89, of Liberty, died Thursday evening, August 14, 2014, in Dayton, Ohio at the Veterans Administration Hospital.
A lifelong Union County resident, Walter was born September 25, 1924 to Theodora and Nora Daisy Potter Clark. He attended Short High School in Liberty and was a U.S. Army veteran where he served as a Tech Sergeant in General Patton’s Third Army. On November 13, 1948, Walter was married in Liberty to the former Evelyn V. Stephens who died January 1, 2008. For over 42 years, Walter was employed as a crane operator at Dresser-Roots in Connersville. He was a member of the First Baptist Missionary Church in Liberty. Walter liked to hunt and enjoyed whistling and singing. He and his family appreciated the special care and attention they received from the VA Hospital nurses.
Walter is survived by his daughter: Deborah J. Brewer of Liberty; his son: Steve Clark and his wife, Dona of Lebanon; his brother: James Franklin Clark and his wife, Jean of Oxford, Ohio; three sisters: Gladys Sleet of Connersville, Shirley Evon Churchmen of Liberty, Janet Miller and her husband, Richard of Oxford, Ohio; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, his son: Barry Andre Clark, three sisters: Louise Ware, Opal Collier, Joan Frazier; his brother: John Wesley “Ed” Clark.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty, with Pastor Richie Ware of Higher Praise Worship Center, Connersville, officiating. Interment will follow in West Point Cemetery with military honors provided by American Legion Post #122 and VFW Post #1472, both of Liberty. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 12 noon Monday until the time of service where memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
