Wanda Jean Pierce

Wanda Jean Pierce, 78 of Richmond died Thursday Evening June 28, 2018. Wanda was born on December 27, 1939 in Richmond to Carl Oran and Naomi Handley Grimme. She was a 1958 graduate of Short High School ,Liberty, Indiana She married Larry Alan Pierce On August 16, 1964 at Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church in Liberty. She worked as a secretary for the Insurance Company of North America for eight years and the Richmond Community Schools for twenty three years. She worked briefly for Burton and Simkin Attorneys and Jan’s Hallmark Store. She was a former member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority where she held several offices and was a charter member of the Liberty Chapter of the Rainbow girls. She also volunteered as a Study Buddy and a Mentor at Baxter and Crestdale Elementary Schools and at Dennis Middle School. She was a member of Edwards United Methodist Church and a member of United Methodist Women. She was a lifelong resident of Union and Wayne counties. Wanda enjoyed reading, her gardening, antiques, and traveling she made it to thirty of the fifty states. Wanda is survived by her daughter: Sheila Denise Pierce, of Richmond, Sister-In-Law, Kathy West; sister-in-law, Alvadeane Evans; brother-in-law; Tom and wife, Virginia Pierce; five nieces and five nephews. Wanda is preceded in death by her loving husband, Larry Alan Pierce a son Jeffrey Carl Pierce, two brothers Bryce Edwin Grimme, and Jay Oran Grimme and her parents. Funeral service will be at the Funeral Home at 1P.M. at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty visitation will be Friday July 6, 2018 from 11A.M. to 1P.M. Interment will follow at Elkhorn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made at the funeral home to Edwards Memorial United Methodist Church-Organ Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
