Richmond resident Wilgus Hale, 93, died Sunday, February 27, 2022 at Reid Health.
Wilgus was born to Clarence and Frances Stidham Hale on January 20, 1929 in Owsley County, Kentucky. He attended Alquina School and was a proud member of the basketball team. After graduation, Wilgus enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged and began working for D&M from which he retired in 1988. Wilgus coached little league for many years in the Fayette County area. He enjoyed watching and playing basketball; he played basketball with his friends from Alquina until the age of eighty. Wilgus was an avid animal lover, tending to his feline and canine companions. Above all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren who will miss him dearly.
Wilgus is survived by his children and their spouses: Danny and Linda Hale, Brenda and Dennis Cox, Wilgus Floyd and Megan Hale; sisters: Rose Basford, Betty Bever, Sharlet Shaffer; wife of thirty-eight years: Alberta Hale; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Wilgus is preceded in death by his son: John Clarence Hale; sister: Frances “Mae” Gibbs; brothers: Willie Hale, Bobby Hale, Lenville Hale, Delmas Hale.
