William H. “Bill” Bonar, 85, of Liberty, died peacefully at home surrounded by family the morning of Sunday, October 1, 2017. Bill was born in Pendleton County, Kentucky, January 8, 1932 to Russell and Ruth Mardis Bonar. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars and the Bronze Star Medal. Bill had been employed at Kaiser Chemicals for thirty-six years and had also worked at Herdrich Petroleum and Miles-Richmond. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Liberty and a member of the Brookville Eagles. Bill was an avid supporter of Union County High School Athletics, the Cincinnati Reds and Indiana University Basketball. In his leisure time, he enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and league bowling with his friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Clara Werner whom he married at Hanna’s Creek Christian Church, November 17, 1956; his children and their spouses: Ronny R. Bonar of Greenfield, Randy Bonar and Mary Earlywine of Straughn, Debbie Willoughby and Rob of Winchester, Kentucky; Susan Jobe and Mike of Brownsville; his sisters: Geneva Cooper of Whitewater, Mabel Hensley of Liberty, Betty Donaldson of Kansas City, Missouri; several nieces and nephews. Bill was a loving Grandpa to ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by two sisters: Norma Bonar and Shirley Miller. Friends and family are invited to attend a public visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. Thursday, October 5, 2017, at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Fosdick Chapel, Liberty. Graveside services will follow at West Point Cemetery with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 122 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1472.
