William L. “Bill” Gray, 65, of Connersville, died early Sunday morning, August 26, 2012, at his residence.
A Fayette County native, Bill was born January 16, 1947, the only child of U. Dodson and Doris Ann Bunzendahl Gray. He was a 1965 graduate of Connersville High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1966. He attained the rank of Specialist 4 while serving with the 41st Artillery in Germany. For 34 years, Bill was employed as a supervisor at Stant Manufacturing. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and watching his grandson race quads. He liked to fish, hunt and hunt mushrooms in his free time. Bill was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 1065 and was a former member of the Moose.
Bill is survived by his wife, the former Patti A. McKenna, whom he married April 18, 1988 in Jellico, Tennessee; his children and their spouses: Betsy A. Baldwin and Doug of Connersville; Cory Dodson Gray and Mandy of Centerville; Brooke Allison Collins and Charles, Jr. of Connersville; George M. Bergen and Marissa of Los Angeles, California; SSG Joseph Ryan Bergen and Sharon of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; twelve grandchildren: Jenny McQuiston, Gabe Bryant, Makenzie Hinshaw, Parker Gray, Carlee Collins, Vance Bergen, Braxton Gray, Jesse Bergen, Mary Ann Collins, Jeg Baldwin, Luke Bergen and Anjelica Bergen; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, including James Bunzendahl of Connersville.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville, with Pastor John Reynolds of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Dale Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Fayette County Veterans Council. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where memorial contributions may be made to the Fayette County Cancer Society or to the American Cancer Society.
