Wilma Gillham, 92, of Connersville, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012, at Hickory Creek Rehabilitation Center.
A Fayette County native, Wilma was born on June 13, 1919 to Samuel E. and Evalyn Mae McCain Stephens. For many years Wilma worked at Maplewood Elementary School in the cafeteria and volunteered at God’s Little Blessings, and enjoyed helping the elderly, many of whom were younger than she. She loved her grandchildren and being active in her church families. She had been a member of Calvary Baptist Church and Agnes Baptist Church in Springtown, Texas.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law: Patricia and George Lennex of Colvis, California; Nadine and Ronald Gill of Connersville; sons and daughters-in-law: William F. and Ruth Leach of Wenden, Arizona; Ralph D. and Christina Leach of Des Moines, Iowa; Ronald G. and Dorothy “Dottie” Leach of Pigeon Forge, Tennessee; Phillip D. and Barbara Leach of Las Vegas, Nevada; Samuel Joe Leach of Salome, Arizona; Michael Anthony “Tony” and Karen Leach of Poolville, Texas; daughter-in-law: Barbara Leach of Salome, Arizona; sister-in-law: Vita Lee Stephens of Fairfax, South Carolina; 42 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband: Fred Leach; second husband: Virgil Gillham; three sons: Raymond Eugene Leach, Richard Lee Leach and his wife Matie, Larry M. Leach; six brothers: Edward, Raymond, Jack, Dick, Roy, and William, six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at Calvary Baptist Church with interment to follow in Valley Grove Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11 AM until the time of the service where memorial contribution may be made to Agnes Baptist Church Building Fund.
