Woodrow A. DePew, 81, of Oxford, Ohio and formerly of Lead Hill, Arkansas, died Saturday, June 28, 2014, at the Hospice of Butler and Warren County in Franklin, Ohio. He was born in Manchester (Clay County), Kentucky on July 4, 1932, to G. S. and Mattie Evelyn Edwards DePew. Woodrow graduated in 1952 from McGuffey High School in Oxford. On September 11, 1952, Woodrow entered the U. S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict until his discharge on August 24, 1954.
During his lifetime, Woodrow was employed in farming and truck driving. He was known as a mechanic who could fix anything. Woodrow enjoyed playing the guitar, attending tractor pulls, drag strips and doing some hunting and fishing.
Woodrow is survived by three sons: Richard DePew of Somerville, Woodrow S. DePew of Eaton, and Frederic W. DePew of Hamilton; one daughter, Alva Jo Settle of Oxford; one brother, Douglas Wayne DePew of South Carolina; three sisters: Vivian Williams of Claremore, OK, Ruby Moeschell of Florida, and Wanda Wilhelm of Owasso, OK; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Woodrow was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Archie and Leo DePew.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, July 3 at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Baker Chapel, 4 County Line Street, College Corner, with Britt Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in College Corner Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by American Legion Post # 122 and VFW Post # 1472.
