Woodrow W. “Woody” Oliver, 99, of Somerville, Ohio and former area resident, died Friday, September 28, 2012, at Woodland Country Manor in Somerville, Ohio.
Woody was born, May 13, 1913 to Floyd “Pad” and Ella C. Isrigg Oliver in Greensburg, Indiana and attended school there. On November 16, 1946, he was married in Corbin, Kentucky to the former Gladys F. Norvell who died December 29, 2005. Woody retired from Design and Manufacturing in Connersville and had also farmed. He enjoyed maintaining a garden at the nursing home for several years. Woody was a devoted member of the Liberty Nazarene Church for over 65 years. He most enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends.
Woody is survived by four children: Stella Oliver and her companion, Leona of College Corner, Ohio; Ellen Porter and John of Eldorado, Ohio; Jerry Oliver and Frances of Westmoreland, Tennessee; Wayne of Hamilton, Ohio; his sister: Mildred Leak of Greensburg; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Woody was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years; six siblings: Wayne, James, Toddy, Warren and Thelma Oliver, Margaret Gilmore.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Liberty Nazarene Church with Rev. Harold Dean Smith officiating. Interment will follow in College Corner Cemetery. Friends may visit at the church from 11 to 1 p.m. Tuesday where memorial contributions may be made to the Liberty Nazarene Church.
